josh jones works hard for the money

Josh Jones is, if nothing else, an enigmatic frontman. His voice, if heard at a distance, might be mistaken for the familiar warblings of Alec Ounsworth (Clap Your Hands Say Yeah), but Jones takes his unique voice into other directions, effortlessly blurring the boundaries of almost demonic psychedelia and riotous, strapping rock & roll. At the start of their opening set on Emo’s main stage for a day party, there were less than a ½ dozen spectators within 20 feet of the stage. Inside of 2 songs, crowds had swarmed in from the two outdoor patios and Emo’s indoor venue, to see a healthily packed crowd, all eyes agog at the somewhat wacky, tambourine shaking, passionately howling, sweaty v-necked lead singer and his band. While FUG IT was there specifically to witness the Evangelicals spectacle, it was warming to see so many converts by the end of their set.
